The Food Hub

Our Food Hub in partnership with 91 Ways reached out to 120 people a week and distributed culturally appropriate food parcels. We believed it would be of great help and assistance to some of our vulnerable members including asylum seekers and women on a low income.

We commenced the food hub project with 91 Way on 3 February 2021. Initially, we engaged 12 families in the first week. By the following week, we increased the level of support and engagement to 15 families. We were delighted to be catering for up to 25 families (totalling 112 people) by the time we reached the fourth week of the initiative.

The demand of the service increased quite significantly in a short period of time primarily because many people were struggling with the costs of daily living. Many had lost their jobs because of the pandemic with some families resorting to going on benefits (Universal Credit and similar). Many expressed their hardships stating that after they had deducted payments of their bills and other expenses, they were not able to afford decent food for their families. Some of the parents were dependent on school meals which included 5 a day.

We provide food packs to families including a range of items including:
• Fresh fruits and vegetables
• Fresh halal chicken
• Dairy products such as milk and eggs
• Dry food products

“RWoB gave me practical support. They called me to see how I was managing. They helped with finances and got me food in bulk and shopping to sustain me and my family. They delivered groceries every Wednesday which came from the food hub straight to my door. RWoB were very helpful and supported me with whatever I needed.”
